Über das Stück

A person wants to die. What rights does the individual have in dealing with his or her own mortality? Is it our moral duty to reduce the suffering of people who are terminally ill or irretrievably broken by offering them a way out? Or isn’t suffering and bearing one’s destiny a moral duty that we have forgotten today? Who can define who is allowed to receive active euthanasia and who is not? Even if death is at stake here, the real issue is the meaning of life. Ferdinand von Schirach is a lawyer and bestselling author. His play Terror became one of the most frequently performed works on German stages and also met with great public interest in Düsseldorf. In his new work, Schirach continues his idea of theatre as a space for social discourse in which major controversial issues of our time are posed and the audience is asked to take a stand. Gott is being given a double premiere at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Berliner Ensemble.
